We’d like to introduce you to Matthew Goodson, a special educator with Mesquite ISD in Texas. Matthew and his students have played over…wait for it….42,000 Vizzle activities this school year! 🙌
What do you and your students think of Vizzle?
We really enjoy working on our Vizzle lessons and improving everyday. I love how it is a great way to keep students engaged in learning and also work on technology skills.
How do you use Vizzle in your classroom?
Everyday each student must complete a certain amount of Vizzle lessons at a certain percentage to earn rewards!!!
What is your favorite subject to teach?
I am a Life Skills teacher so I really enjoy working with my students on Social Skills to help them in their everyday life. If I had to pick a subject, it would be Social Studies.
What inspired you to become a teacher?
I wanted a profession where I could make an impact on people’s lives.
What is your daily inspiration?
I have most of my students for several years so I love watching how much they grow as people (academically and socially) on a day to day basis.
What do you do to refuel?
Spend time with my 3 daughters and wife. Also, I watch a lot of sports (Dallas Cowboys, Notre Dame Football, and Texas Rangers mostly.)
What is the most important thing that makes your classroom work?
Consistency! Our students show up everyday and know the expectations for the day. “Morning Work, Vizzle, Work rotation/Choice time, REPEAT! My teaching assistants are also great at helping me keep high standards in the classroom.
What advice would you give a brand new teacher?
Be flexible! Everyday something unexpected will happen. Go with the flow and do the best you can for the students.
It has been a pleasure getting to know you. Loved hearing that the most important thing in your classroom is consistency! Not sure who to give credit to, but I once heard, “Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out.” Sounds like you’re students are definitely on the path to success!
